When You Need an Adult But You Are an Adult

Timothy, 25

“Law school was the plan for a while. After a year and a half of working, it felt like the right decision. [I had to give up] time with my family, [and] independent studies.”

Getting back into the “swing” of things… Lots of coffee. I allowed myself to lose sleep for the first few weeks until I found a regimen that worked for me.
Biggest shock of coming back to school… How approachable the professors are (shout out to Kip Cornwell).
Greatest challenges in law school… Being able to allot enough time for my personal relationships (marriage).
Greatest resources… Family and friends who were incredibly understanding and patient, while I was confused and disoriented.
Law school and your personal life… I came to understand that there is only so much return for the effort I put into school. Good grades are important, but a healthy relationship with my significant other is infinitely more valuable. Once that was clear, my priorities were easier to arrange (e.g. a night or two away from studying is fine).
Your Story/Advice… In some ways, knowing nothing of the law school experience and the legal profession has been a boon. I had very limited, blurry expectations, because I knew nothing of what was to come. Because of that, this whole experience is totally foreign, and continually exciting.
